To celebrate 10 years of the NWPA Innovation Beehive Network, we are highlighting standout clients from our history of free business assistance. Your Sailing Adventure has been the region's premier sailing charter service since 2021, providing adventurers with the amazing sights of Presque Isle State Park and Lake Erie. They run curated sailing experiences daily (while in season), including a sunrise & sound bath, lively daytime sailing, relaxing sunset sails, sommelier and sails, sailing lessons, and more.
The Mercyhurst Beehive provided this business with market research that led to "crucial recommendations." The PennWest Edinboro Beehive helped solve issues with their website. The Gannon Beehive helped the business with financial projections.
We recently spoke with Scott Hitz, the founder of Your Sailing Adventure.
— When did you start your business? What inspired you to start the business?
I wanted to share the sailing experience, contribute to the attractiveness of our city through a unique adventure activity, and foster a sailing legacy in our community.
— Talk about your collaboration with the Beehive. What did the network help you with?
PennWest helped me spread the word about my work via their podcast, and Chris (Lantinen) also helped me resolve an HTML issue with my website. Gannon helped me with financial projections. Mercyhurst helped me with analysis (SWAT, market research, competitive analysis) and also with a branding manual.
— How has that Beehive work helped your business? What was most impactful about your collaboration with the Beehive?
Working with Mercyhurst yielded crucial recommendations, such as using my booking software which has been the single best decision I've made to date. I'm most proud of continuing to grow past our five year mark with a 5-star online reputation.
— Where are you going next? What are you excited to build or explore moving forward?
We're continuing to grow our revenue year over year. Our 10-year plan includes fleet expansion and more offerings to the public sector.
